Ideals

Naeyc and DEC
* To be familiar with the knowledge base of early childhood care and education and to stay informed through continuing education and training.

* To advocate for and ensure that all children including those with special needs have support services needed to be successful.

* We shall respect, value, promote, and encourage the active participation of all families by engaging families in meaningful ways in the assessment and intervention process.

 Three ideals are important and also help to strengthen my processional goals.  They help support my future plan.  In early childhood you have to create a system that is beneficial to you.  When I get the opportunity to start my own daycare I will make sure that I create a positive atmosphere and support system for the parents and students.

    Amani, We actually shared two of the same ideals. I feel that the first code "To be familiar..." is very essential because one must know the basis of the field to be able to grow. The second agreed code was "to advocate for..", this is really a good one, however sometimes I question as a field are making sure that we meet the need of ALL students? I honestly feel that we could do more by fully training and educating individuals on special education. A setup like the offered classes for grade school teachers would be fantastic for the ECE field. Also thank you for sharing your professional goals. If you stick to this outlook of having a positive atmosphere and offering support services for parents and students, your center will be a success!

    Hi Amani,
    Your first statement drew my immediate attention. As educators we have to stay abreast of the latest research and findings in the field of ECE. When you start up your own facility, it will be important for you as the director to mandate your employees to be proactive about their professional development and getting their training hours.

This book is an excellent resource for those who will be teaching or even being a mentor to a child with disabilities.  It gives you a step by step approach on how to handle certain situations and how to have an overall positive educational experience for the child. My mom introduced me to Dr. Spock who was at one point everyones favorite pediatrician.  I do find that a lot of the lessons and tips that he gives are still valid to children today and will be a great resource to educators.

When I think of my favorite children's book I go back to my own childhood.  The first book that comes to mind is Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.  I remember loving this as a child because of the bright beautiful colors in the book.  The colors caught my attention and made learning the alphabet fun and memorable.  I do believe that when children are learning hard concepts it is always good to incorporate a fun concept to help the concept stick in their minds.

My mom My mom is a perfect example of great mom and a woman who goes for her dreams and follows her goals.  She provides me with love and support.  She is also a great mentor to me.  She gives me advice and unconditional love. Hope Home is my sister and a part of the web of support. We are really close in age so growing up I learned a lot from her.  She was always there to give me support and loving advice.  A lot of times I would see how she went through different situations and learn from them. My dad My father passed at an early age but his influence left an imprint on my life.  He was a big enforcer of making sure we know the difference between whats right and what is wrong.  He taught me how to treat people and about responsibilities.
